Since our inception
in 1996, FCSN has grown from a 10-family organization to a
500-plus-family
organization, and is still growing by the day. When we first started,
we were fortunate to have the support of the Santa Clara County
Asian Pacific Family Resource Center and the Chinese Church in Christ(Milpitas)
to provide us with gathering places for our weekly programs. Now
we have 20 local programs in 10 different areas: Oakland, Fremont, Milpitas, San Jose, West
San Jose, Cupertino, Saratoga, Los Gatos, Almaden, and Palo
Alto (please click to see more details about our
programs). We are still expanding our organization to meet the
needs of the community at lightning speed. And the need for a
headquarters (FCSN
Center) to coordinate all the different local programs and support
groups has reached a critical point.
A group of parents took the first step by chipping in their own money to secure a lot in Fremont suitable for our purpose and began the planning process to build the center jointly with FCSN. FCSN Center encompasses a multi-purpose room, 6 classrooms, a kitchen, and a resource library (please click to see more details about the FCSN Center).
The estimated cost for building the center is 2.5 million dollars. We began our fundraising campaign in June 2002. Through various successful fundraising events and with the generosity of our community, we have raised the $2.5 million needed to complete construction. We are happy to report that we have completed the construction of our Dream Center in Fremont in the summer of 2006. By September 1996, the Center was fully staffed and in full operation. Since then, we have also started two new vendorized programs, a East Bay family support gathering, and several local programs in the FCSN Center, while keeping our South Bay family support gathering and other local programs running.
Today in 2008, our Center is fully utilized and many programs have flourished. During the weekdays, the Center is used by the EB Adult Day Program which serves over 35 special needs adults. In the afternoon, the Center is home to several after school and local programs. And in the weekends, it is used for East Bay family support gatherings & local programs.
