  • FCSN Fundraising Gala
    With over 850 guests, our fundraising gala on 11/17 at Santa Clara Convention Center was another huge success. The MCs (Diane Kwan & Rick Geha) did a wonderful job, and our ADP students provided a good "show and tell". Our adult's performances (duet & trio singing, and magic show) were refreshing; and as usual, our kids' performance was the biggest crowd pleaser. Overall, it was well attended and very well received. We are pleased to report that we have raised over $250,000 so far and expect more to come.

  • FCSN Center Open House
    FCSN held its first open house at the Dream Center. We had a full house of special guests and good friends. EB ADP students sang and danced during the program.

  • FCSN is excited to announce the hiring of Ivy Wu as its Executive Director. Ivy is also a member of Fremont Unified School Board, California School Board Association, Asian Pacific School Board Members Association (APISBMA), Asian Pacific American Leadership Institute (APALI), Mission Valley SELPA, CBC etc. She brings with her many years of experience in management, government and community service.

  • Congratulations to Albert Wang, FCSN Co-Chair, for winning the KQED's Celebration of Disability Culture Award by demonstrating leadership and strong commitment to making a difference in the disabled community. The Award ceremony was held on Oct. 4th, at KQED headquarters, in San Francisco.

  • Couples Workshop "A Special Gift for Special Families":
    Recognizing the relationship problems faced by many couples with special children. FCSN organized a 2-day couples workshop at FCSN Center designed specifically for couples with children of special needs. FCSN also provided lunch and childcare service. Dr. Pete Pearson from the Couples Institute conducted the lively workshop, which was attended by close to 50 couples.

  • Annual Meeting and Family Day
    Several hundreds FCSN families and friends joined together to celebrate the dream and accomplishments of our organization. Tsai-Wei Wu formally took over the responsibility of FCSN president from past president James Chiao, and Chung-Kun Lee becomes the new vice president.
5/17/07:
  • FCSN Board Election
    FCSN Board election was held on 5/17. 8 new board members were elected for a 2-year term. Out of the 8 elected board members, 3 are first time board members. After the Board election, the new Board elected Limin Hu and Albert Wang as the co-chairmen for the coming year. At the same time, Tsai-Wei Wu was elected as the new president. FCSN board also approved the appointment of Amy & Steve Cho and Hebe & Stanley Woo to the Board.

  • SLS program director
    Nancy Eddy has accepted a position with FCSN as the program director of the Supported Living Service (SLS). Prior to joining FCSN, Nancy was vice Executive Director at PHP.

  • Building improvement Thanks to several grants and donations, FCSN has completed several major improvements to the Center. The improvements include a concrete walkway, 3 additional AC systems in classrooms, new office furniture, and a new sound system in MPR.

  • In recognition for FCSN's dedication to carry on Joan Kilburn's vision to ensure that persons with developmental disabilities and their families receive the support and opportunities they need to be valued members of their community and for having a dream for children and families and making it a reality in building the FCSN Dream Center and apartments, FCSN was awarded the 2007 Visionary Award from Area Board 5, California State Developmental Disability Council for Alameda, San Francisco, San Mateo, Contra Costa, and Marin Counties on February 2, 2007 in Berkeley.

  • FCSN's family support gatherings for Spring 2007 is now open for registration. The South Bay meeting will start on February 3, and the East Bay meeting will start on February 10.   • Our fundraising gala on 11/18 was a huge success at every level. We had about 1000 guests. The MCs (Diane Kwan & Albert Wang) did a wonderful job, and Professor Chenming Hu gave a touching talk on "care to share". And all the performances (kids performance, mini folk song concert, and line dance) were refreshing and great. Overall, it was very well received.   • FCSN received the Asian American Hero Awards by Santa Clara County. This year there're 40 contestants and FCSN is one of the 12 to be awarded. Founded in 2001 by Santa Clara County Supervisor Liz Kniss, the Asian American Heroes Awards are held annually and recognize individuals or organizations who exhibited outstanding examples of civic engagement, inspired leadership, and/or community service.   • The Grand Opening ceremony of FCSN Center was held on October 8. This joyful event was celebrated with close to 500 of FCSN's supporters, including: State Assemblywoman Wilma Chan, Mayor of Milpitas Jose Esteves, Vice Mayor of Fremont Steve Cho, Vice Mayor of Cupertino Kris Wang, Vice Mayor of Saratoga Aileen Kao, and many other guests.   • From August 10 to August 12, FCSN held a summer music camp, A-do-ré-me, for children and adults with special needs in our brand new FCSN Center. The activities include singing, music and movement, ensemble, percussion, and instrumental master class. A concert performance was held on August 13. It was an awesome concert and the audience were totally amazed at what our children can learn in just 3 days. Some of them were so touched that they had tears in their eyes during the performance. Many thanks to our Music Camp director, Beverly, teachers, and volunteer helpers for their hard work to make this camp such a fun and touching experience for everyone.   • FCSN had a wonderful 10th anniversary Annual Meeting that took place on June 17 at the Chinese Culture Center in Sunnyvale. Over 300 members, children and friends came to the celebration. The sharing was touching, the food was great, the Emcees were excellent, and the children's performance was so incredibly original and cute. Thanks to all our volunteers and children.   • FCSN board election was held and 6 new board members were elected for the 2 year term from 2006 to 2008. Out of the 6 board members, 4 current members were re-elected. We also have 2 new board members, we welcome them to join the FCSN board. FCSN board also approved the appointment of Ms. Kris Wang and Chen-Ming & Margaret Hu (Parents of artist Raymond Hu with Down’s Syndrome) to board of directors.   • FCSN 10th Anniversary, Annual Family Day: Please join us in our Annual Family Day on Saturday, June 17 from 10:30am to 2:30pm. The activities will include new president inauguration, review of our programs for the past year, and presentation of our goals for the coming year. There are also performance from FCSN's children and youth. Lunch for everyone and a play area for the children will be provided. This event will be held at Chinese Culture Center.

  • On 11/12, FCSN's annual fundraising gala, Treasure Our Dream, was held at the Santa Clara Convention Center. We heard nothing but praises for our programs (thanks to Sufen, Jason/CK/F4, Limin), our facility and decoration (thanks to John, Chi, Julia, Bo Liu, many others), our perfect pair of MC’s (Jo and Rick), the sharing Video (thanks for Ma Li, Felix, and Jimmy, our new volunteer), our reception staff (thanks to Amy, Josephine, and many others), our raffle/Silent auction group (thanks to Linda, Sherrie, Lingru, and many others), and numerous other aspects of the event. Our many VIP’s were truly amazed at what FCSN is providing our community and how talented our children are. We had a pleasant surprise of the dollor-for-dollor matching donor from the Jiao Da Alumni Association.   • Continuing the success of the past two years, FCSN held another sold-out performance of Campus Folk Song Concert in Flint Center, Cupertino on 7/30. Several performers came all the way from Taiwan and expressed their happiness in participating in this meaningful FCSN event, and they followed up by putting on a tremendous show for the audience. Another highlight of the concerts is that all of the background singers are FCSN members. Please see the related reports and concert photos.

  • On Tuesday, December 2, 2004, FCSN Board member Patrick Kwok was sworn into the office of Mayor for the City of Cupertino. FCSN President Anna Wang, Past Presidents Limin Hu and Linmei Chiao, Executive Director Josephine Chou, and several members were present at the ceremony. Anna spoke on behalf of FCSN praising Patrick’s love and care for children with special needs. Patrick has been a committed community activist, serving on the Cupertino Planning Commission before being elected to the City Council in 2001. He has earned the respect of his fellow council members, who elected him to be Mayor for the year 2004-2005. Patrick and wife Susan joined the FCSN Board of Directors in July, 2004 and brings to our organization his distinguished experience in community service.

  • On 10/30, FCSN's annual fundraising gala was held at Hyatt Regency Hotel in Burlingame. The event features singer Jessica Shum and IDEA band; with sharing provided by Darcy Ting, who is the host of KTSF’s “Mandarin Journal”. The event
    drew over 700 guests who enjoyed an evening of music, singing, dancing, and performances by FCSN children and members.   • FCSN is proud to present the first “FCSN Booth,” a toy and gift store with a mission to help adults with developmental challenges. It provides them a great work opportunity in an integrated setting to learn valuable life skills with the supervision and support from FCSN staff, and to gain a sense of accomplishment and self-fulfillment.   • CRYING OUT FOR SPECIAL NEEDS CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES! A busload of FCSN parents and children headed to Sacramento on May 20, 2004, to voice opposition to the Governor's proposed budget cuts for the special needs community. Please see the reports in Argus, World Journal, and SingTao Daily.
04/29/04:
  • FCSN was one of the leading groups in the protest against the Governor's proposed cuts on IHSS, held on April 28, beginning at 11 AM. Over 1,200 children and adults with disabilities, seniors, independent living centers, regional centers, other community organizations, in-home care workers who marched six blocks from the Sacramento Convention Center to the south steps of the State Capitol in a noisy demonstration chanting "we have rights - no more cuts". Hundreds packed the hallways and hearing rooms in the State Capitol giving testimonies to the Assembly Budget Subcommittee on Health and Human Services on the impact of the IHSS cuts.   • The groundbreaking ceremony of FCSN Center was held on October 22, 2003. This joyful event was celebrated with many of FCSN's supporters, including Honorable Wilma Chan(State Assembly Majority Leader), Honorable Liz Figueroa(State Senator), Honorable Scott Haggerty(Alameda County Supervisor), Mayor Gus Morrison(City of Fremont), Executive Director Jim Burton(East Bay Regional Center), Executive Director Santi Rogers(San Andreas regional Center), City of Fremont Council Members and many other guests.   • Aside from the big success of our summer events: Family Day(6/25/03) and Campus Folk Song Concerts(7/27/03), FCSN has proudly joined in many events held by the community and other groups. Here's the report on these events:

    Relay For Life(6/21/03): Around 50 people from FCSN participated this event held by the Cancer Society, Northern American Chinese Chapter. Led by our team captain, Andrew Chiang, each team member walked at a range from 3 to 28 laps, and help raised $2,045.
    4th of July Parade(7/4/03): Around 60 FCSN members walked down the Warm Spring Blvd. in Fremont. Our well decorated Yellow Submarine float, music, and our children on the float got a lot of cheers from the crowd. Together with CBC, Fremont Chinese School, Academy of Chinese Performing Arts, we won two awards: first place in the Novelty Category, and People's Choice Award.     19th Chinese American Athletic Tournament(7/20/03): Over 100 FCSN members participated in this event held at De Anza College, Cupertino. Our team members won all the medals of the special-need children track events and special-need family fun games. FCSN has also won two team awards: Best Team Spirit Award(3rd place) and Event Special Award. Please check out the reports in World Journal, SingTao Daily, and The Epoch Times.

  • FCSN held two full-house, well-received Campus Folk Song Concerts on July 27. Thanks to the help from singers, musicians, and volunteers, we received overwhelming response from the audience and public. Please check out our concert highlight, and media reports.

This high quality program is for special needs and typically developing children ages 5 & under that are residents of Cupertino, West SJ, Saratoga, Los Gatos.   • FCSN had a wonderful Annual Meeting/Family Day that took place on June 14 at the Chinese Culture Center in Sunnyvale. Some 300 members and guests enjoyed a wonderful afternoon together. We were honored to have Assemblyman Leland Yee to speak to us, and the welcome by Sunnyvale Mayor Julie Miller. Please see the report in World Journal and Sing Tao Daily.     - Back by popular demand, FCSN will have our camping at Wurr Flat Group Camp, San Mateo Memorial Park. It's about a 20-30 Minute drive from the intersection of I-280 and HWY. 84.
